Before ordering your log home
Make sure to find answers to the following questions before starting your project. These are all important pieces of information that will affect not only the cost of the work but also the feasibility of your project within a reasonable timeframe.
1. Municipal regulations
In your process, it is very important to ensure awareness of municipal or regional regulations that could affect the feasibility or influence the final outcome and design of your project.

Validation steps with the relevant authorities will allow us to provide you with a plan quickly.

Failure to consult beforehand may result in additional costs for plan revisions, wood component adjustments, and significant delays in project completion.
2. Terrain
Type of land
  • Flat
  • Gentle slope
  • Steep slope

  • With radiant heating (hot water or electric)
Conventional
For a conventional foundation, what use is it intended for?

Are any rooms finished in the basement?
If yes, in which orientation?

Ground level in relation to the top of the foundation?
Is the slope significant enough to require a frost wall? In this case, for basement rooms, is the use of a patio door (bedroom) or a garage door required?
4. Electricity

  • South

  • West
  • Overhead
  • Underground
Panel location
  • Ground floor

  • Need for a sump pit with pump?
Sanitary installation and appliances
Will you install a washer, laundry tub, or toilets?
In the basement? On the ground floor? On the mezzanine?

For small cottages, have you considered using a space-saving solution like a stacked washer-dryer or an all-in-one appliance? Evaluate this need, as each choice has its advantages and disadvantages.

What size of water heater is required? For small cottages, could a 20-gallon water heater meet the need and save space?

Do you plan to use a dishwasher?

Is the required sink single or double?

Do you plan to use only a shower, or is a bathtub also required? Can the bathtub and shower be combined, or will they be separate?
6. Front door and terrace
Front door layout

Other doors
Where will the other doors be located?

Patio or terrace
What is the size of the patio?

Addition of a sunroom to keep out flies?
7. Windows
In the front gable, what type of windows are desired (see our models)?

For the rear wall of the mezzanine, if available, what type of windows do you want?

To maximize natural light in the kitchen, it is possible to install a low-height horizontal window that is wider. The suggested cabinets would then be 22" instead of 30". The advantage is abundant natural light on the countertop surfaces.
8. Staircase
Will the staircase leading to the mezzanine be open log-style or wood?
Or will it be closed in a conventional style with storage underneath the stairs?
9. Roofing
We suggest an enameled metal roof, although the covering can also be shingles.
10. Fireplace and heating
Type of heating
Do you plan to install a wood stove or a fireplace? Or gas appliances?

Air exchanger
Depending on the area, an air exchanger may be required.

Where inside would you like to install it?
